Disaster Strikes!

Disaster Strikes!

I spent my Saturday evening at the cinema, after eagerly anticipating the release of this wedding flick. Starring Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway, the two best friends have dreamed of Plaza Hotel weddings since young girls and suddenly find themselves getting engaged within a few days of eachother. Eager to book thier dates, a mix up means that they have to have both weddings on the same day. Being eachothers bridesmaids, this immediatley poses a problem however neither will budge. The war begins as both bridezillas try to ruin eachothers wedding plans, however it is never quite explained why they couldn’t have a joint wedding, after all they are best friends?

I am a complete chick flick addict but I’m affraid this one didnt quite give me the buzz I needed. Unlike marmite, I neither loved it nor hated it. It’s catfight comedy was in places very amusing with two of the best moments happen weeks before the wedding (blue hair and orange skin).

By the end of the film I wanted it to be finished however for anyone who is thinking of being a wedding planner, it’s a must see; you start to get an idea of how much of a nightmare some brides can really be! The Vera Wang wedding dress is stunning and, in my opinion, the star of the entire film. According to other sources, costume designer Karen Patch worked closely with Vera Wang to design two Vera Wang custom wedding gowns for Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway. (That sentence makes me swoon…)

When looking at the 2009 collection, you can quickly see the similarities of Kate’s  gown (see right).  Anne Hathaway’s dress was supposedly passed down from her mother, so the costume designer had to add in a touch of nostalgia to the design. Speculation across the web states that Anne’s dress was based on a gown from Vera Wang’s fall 2005 collection.

Anyway back to the film; overall I would give it 3/5, a watchable. If you want to see it, don’t waste the expensive cinema prices and rent instead.
