This seasons fashion trends are peppered with florals of all patterns and designs, and just make you feel warm and sunny looking at them. These bright colours are being reflected in more and more summer wedding themes, as you’ll find from these moodboards from around the web.

These colours are so bold and vibrant and could really make a summer garden wedding fantastic. Make an impact by using these colours as highlights in table settings, decor, grooms attire, or even your bridal dress and accessories!

Carry on the tropical colours through to your drinks selection – design a cocktail with your wedding colours in mind and serve them before the reception dinner.

Try to match warm tropical colours with natural pale colours to balance it out, so that your reception colours dont look to ‘gaudy’ or messy. Always try to stick to a palette of either warm or cool colours – warm colours being bright pinks and reds, oranges and yellows, and cool colours being bright blues, greens and purples.

I was send a link recently to a blog called Tacky Weddings, where they aim to showcase “all things heinous, trashy and hilarious in weddings”. I have to say, its a fun read. Latest on their blog roll is a fantastic ‘save the date’ vide, made to look like a movie trailer. Have a look below:

Only for the very brave bride and groom to attempt…but a fantastic idea! This non-traditional way of sending out save the dates got me looking into other (perhaps tamer) ways of letting people know you’re getting married.

You can personalise just about anything on the web if you’re willing to spend the time looking for what you wan, and at the moment there seems to be a trend of sending out ‘save the date’ magnets – printed with your names and the date, and perhaps a photo of the two of you if you can afford to go for a little extra. They are a clever idea – after all, most people do put all of their daily reminders on the fridge, so why not your wedding day. Another sweet idea is personalised sweets, chocolate or tins of mints. Working in more or less the same way as the magnets – but the worry is if its a chocolate bar with your names and date on it, people of course will eat the chocolate then perhaps accidentally throw away the wrapper! Bad plan. The mint tins are a nicer idea, as the tin can be more easily kept and reused.

If your budget restricts blowing a lot of money on ‘save the date’s, consider taking the time and making your own. It will be worth it for the money you save and would be a cute side project for you both to work on together. Fun projects like taking photos of the two of you and making a montage to print and send out, or drawing up a ‘save the date’ puzzle or game (see below), makes for great pre-wedding together time.

Guests will really appreciate getting something different from the two of you, and something that shows your personalities as a couple. So get inventive!

Forgive us for the lack of posts in the past few weeks, its been a very busy time for us both, but hopefully we can get back into the swing of things and get some blog your way.

Just a little golden nugget to kick things off, available from the Confetti store (online and on Tottenham Court Road in London), a must have for anyone looking to add some subtle golden magic to their wedding reception.

While on a jaunt in boho Brighton at the weekend I noticed a striking window display of chocolate (always enough to grab my attention for at least five minutes). The chocolate couturier was called ChoccyWoccyDooDah, and I had seen their displays in Liberty’s in London’s West End, but never really given it more than a “oh that’s cool” and moved on. Moving closer to the window display (obviously, so I could drool on the window rather than myself), I noticed that they made the most amazing cakes, many of which would be a fantastic feature for a wedding. Check out their white chocolate version of Rodin’s sculpture ‘The Kiss’!

ChoccyWoccyDooDah (answering the phone there must be a little odd…) specialises in unique chocolate cake sculptures and delicious recipes. They have ranges of bespoke, designer and housestyle cakes available to buy online or to try in store. Depending on the size and the design, the cakes can range from £150 to £1500, so theres something for everyone – as long as you aren’t allergic to chocolate…bad luck.

Don’t be deceived, they work in more than just white chocolate, but I thought for weddings it might be the best ones to showcase. They work in milk and dark chocolate, as well as splashing on some beautiful colours if needed. You must must must see their website – ChoccyWoccyDooDah. There’s also a fun little recipe game…

After writing a piece a few days ago about fascinators replacing the traditional tiara, I received a comment from Kilee of Happy Hour Bride who directed me to Jennifer Behr, and wow what a great place to be directed to. I am now officially a fan and will defiantly be considering her accessories when advising brides on putting together their final look.

Jennifer perfected her skills in a tiny custom millinery shop in the suburbs of Baltimore, spending hours meticulously stitching custom headpieces after completing a college degree in sculpture and art history. In due course, Frederic Fekkai, at the time in partnership with Chanel, found Jennifer and recruited her to design a hair accessory collection which would later be discontinued.

As luck would have it a buyer at Bergdorf Goodman gave her the boost she needed and told her to start her own line, buying her pieces sight unseen and starting the brilliance that today has become the Jennifer Behr line.

Jennifer is “inspired by the richness of silks, feathers, stones, pythons and leathers,” in her quest to create elegant and vibrant pieces, which are all produced by hand in her Brooklyn studio.

I have posted some pictures from both her seasonal and bridal collections, however for more information visit her website here.

A few months ago we wrote a feature on Maki’s Cakes, an amazing bakery in Middlesex specialising in wedding cakes – both modern and traditional. A sneak back at their website this week and I see they have yet again succeeded in amazing us.

Maki’s now features a section for their signature cakes called ‘Temari’ – named after a thousand year old craft from Japan where coloured silk would be weaved onto a small toy ball for children. Maki has taken this idea and it has inspired her new range of individual cakes for weddings.

Small cakes are priced at £9 each, and large is £12.

Holly and myself attended the National Wedding show yesterday, getting lots of new ideas.

One of the main things I noticed on the runway was the number of fascinators replacing tiaras. I personally think they’re more original and creative than the traditional tiara and can bring colours and themes together. Whether you want to be brave and go for something dramatic, or just accepntuate your face with a bridcage veil or little hat, this is a lovely trend that I hope catches on.

Trees and lights, to me, create such a beautiful sense of romance for a wedding – and for a reception, it can be easy to create such an outdoor effect, indoors. Plant and tree rental is easy, and there is a wide choice available to you. A small tree with branches could be turned into quite a feature, placed on a table with pens, card and string. Guests could write their own message to the couple and tie it onto the tree – making for great reading after the wedding and a unique keepsake.

Candles and bare branches can be striking as centrepieces. Don’t be afraid to expermiment with colours and spray paint before the wedding. Especially in winter, silver or white branches could be gorgeous – with accent bows or hanging decorations in the colour scheme of your wedding.

The last two plants are available to  buy from a website called Red Hot Plants for £70 and £95 respectively.

Today I had a random thought about the idea of personalised sugar cubes and cute little add-ons to a reception table, so I Googled it…and found none. I did find however, an adorable website called Truly Madly Deeply that claims itself to be ‘Shopping Heaven for Lovers Everywhere’. On it, I found lovely rose petal confettis, pomanders, decorated umbrellas and much more – including some very cute decorated sugar cubes!

All available to buy at a reasonable price – see website.
