Last week saw designers flock to the Paris to see the latest Haute Couture collections. There were many that I took inspiration from including the safe yet elegant designs from Valentino, the sexy Spanish infused outfits from Jean Paul Gautier, and the bows and ribbons of Alexis Mabille, however I couldn’t help but pick out some of the Japanese inspired dresses from Elie Saab. Elie opened his first UK boutique in Harrods in July 2008 and he is set to continue his expansion worldwide. He has become a couture favourite and this years collection proves why. His designs are powerful and inspirational; the texture, detail and graceful layering is stunning, coupled with an essences of modern and fairytale to add a stylish twist.
These gowns are enough to make any woman feel like a princess and with their Japanese infusion, they become elegant works of art. No doubt they come with a heavy price tag, costing a small fortune for those who want an original, however I prefer to see these designs as an inspiration for whats hot this season and an education in dress design.
